Lycopersicum cheesmanii F. Minor. AKA Galápagos Island Tomato, Lycopersicum cheesmanii, Solanum cheesmanaie. Indeterminate. Regular leaf. One of two main species of wild tomatoes found on the Galápagos Islands, 500 miles west of Ecuador. Smaller and more pale than the oldest mainland cultivars, both in its fruit and leaves, but its flavor is similar. It can also be crossbred with domestic tomatoes, which has been done professionally to impart its unusual salinity tolerance and disease resistances to some commercial cultivars. Solanum cheesmaniae is thought to have diverged from its closest relatives, Solanum lycopersicum and Solanum pimpinellifolium, less than 500,000 years ago. It produces an abundance of small oblong orange-yellow fruit could pass as yellow grape tomatoes. Flavor really shines when roasted. 65 days.
