King & Queen

Single Image
VEGETABLES / WATERMELON-CITRON
Perfectly round, pale green, winter melon type watermelon with lemonade pink flesh. Flavor is slightly sweet with a crisp and juicy texture but fruit is very seedy, which can make eating bothersome. BRIX of 8.0. Fruits can be 6.5-11.5 lbs with dark brown/black seeds. Rind is tough, thick, and light green with faint, irregular pale green stripes. Melons store well and are meant to be enjoyed in mid-winter. Iowa seedsman Glenn Drowns recommends picking the fruit, "just prior to complete ripeness and carefully wiping off to remove surface fungi. Sometimes a mild bleach solution works well. Place them where they are not touching each other in a cool storage area where it is around 50 deg. F." Fruit can keep until early January from a mid-October picking, according to Drowns.
