Plants 1.5-3' tall. Half of plants were lodged in 2012. Short and stocky, prickly, green pods. 6-9 ridges per pod. Green leaves with red veins. Petioles red above and green below. Seed mature pods average 5.5" long and 1.3" wide. Best eaten under 3" long. Good flavor and texture. Slightly floral. Mid-season maturing. Donated to SSE by Dorris Smith. Grown in DeKalb County Alabama by five generations of Dorris' family. Originally grown in Virginia by her great-great-grandfather, John Rains (b.1759, d.1835). SSE Accession # 114031
