C.-MAXIMA
Small blue hubbard. Highly rated variety in 2014 taste evaluation: sweet and creamy; dry texture. Squash are pear shaped with gray-blue-green, rough skin with slight ribbing. Fruit size and intensity of color can vary somewhat. Mature fruit measure 4-5.5" long, 5-8" in diameter, and weigh 3-6 lbs. Flesh color dark orange and about 1" thick. Low productivity and late maturing when grown in 2014 at Heritage Farm. Cucurbita maxima. Given to SSE in 1994 by Conrad Leighton (MN LE C) who obtained the squash in 1989 from his great-uncle Carryll Banta. This variety was given to Banta by a friend in Illinois who had obtained it from another friend, Perry Evans of Big Rock, IL. SSE Accession # 120637
