Long Island Cheese - Heirloom

C. moschata. Winter squash. Cheese type. Smooth tan fruit with intermediate ribbing, shaped like a slightly flat pumpkin. Mature fruit range from 4.5-6.5 tall, 7.5 to 12.5 wide, and weigh 5-14 lbs. Medium to deep orange flesh with deep orange seed cavities. Flesh measures 1-2 inches thick. Delicious flesh is moderately sweet and smooth to somewhat coarse texture. Attractive and very vigorously vining plants that mature mid-late season. This heirloom is remembered as a great pie squash by people in New York and New Jersey per SSE. Keep very well in cool conditions.
