Organic Listing
Happiest in the tropics, this herbaceous vine can grow up to 12' tall and produces a cucumber-like edible fruit shaped like a green slipper. It is frost tender and the plant has individual male and female flowers pollinated by insects. It can tolerate a variety of soil types, does not like wind and can grow in part shade but prefers to find the sun. It produces its first harvest about 3 months after planting and can continue for several months if weather is favorable. Might prefer a greenhouse on the coast of Northern California.
