VEGETABLES / CORN
FLINT
An heirloom flint corn that was once grown on Bear Island on Leech Lake in northern Minnesota by the Indigenous tribes that lived there. The corn was grown on the island as there was less pressure on the crop from deer and raccoons. Isolation methods used distance, timing, and barriers. I planted a few weeks after the farmers around me. There is forest between my crop and my neighbors. The nearest corn fields are about 2 miles away.
