VEGETABLES / POTATO-SEED
Organic Listing
True potato seed (seeds, not a seed potato): every seed will grow a genetically unique new type with unknown characteristics. Grown like tomato seeds, but smaller, so need to be planted shallowly. Plants are typically grown in a pot the 1st year, and produce a small crop of small tubers, that are then planted out in the ground or larger pots the second season, where they produce full-size tubers. Count on two growing seasons to fully determine the characteristics of a new variety grown from TPS. Mother plant (the one that bore fruit) is "Shetland Black TPS 2011" from Curzio Caravati (WI CA C). Father plant (pollen source), is unknown; it could be the same as the mother plant, if the variety is self fertile, otherwise is likely one of the following, which were grown in proximity: Agria, Alaska Frostless, Amey, Black Fir Apple, Elmer's Blue, Cow Horn, PI 657146, Rodbrokig Svensk, Russian Banana, STC TPS 97 A, B or C (unreleased varieties)
