VEGETABLES / TOMATO-CURRANT

 Organic Listing
Solanum pimpinellifolium. Indeterminate, regular leaf. 65-75 days. Huge yields of pea-sized fruit on very long, attractive trusses. The main claim to fame for this tomato is that it is very small, fairly uniformly 3/8", about 1 cm across (pea sized). However, the fruit itself is quite tasty, with a robust sweet, smoky flavor. The skin is just the right thickness for its size, and these keep well and release from their stems easily. These are great in salads and would do well as a high-end market tomato for fancier restaurants looking for a differentiator as an ingredient and/or attractive, unique, delicious garnish. I had to force myself to stop eating these in order to save adequate seed. And, if you really want to get small, consider also growing the pepper equivalent, a chiltepin, and some Egyptian walking onions to make micro-ingredient salsa. Don't wait! Get small today!
