VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-POLE
Pole/Shell/Dry. I had remembered growing this bean back in the early 1980's, but never listed this bean. It had been traded around by the listed members from about 1983-89 before disappearing from yearbook listings. I had it listed on my bean wants list in my yearbook narative under the membership list. It turned up this year from OR BL T who sent it to me and said he had been keeping it since the mid 1980's. He was have some difficulty keeping it more productive in his Oregon climate. It's maturity time in the past has been described from 90 to as much as 120 days. That could be for shelly's or for longer maturity time for dry beans. It is nicely productive and has slightly flattened somewhat square seed that has a tan base color with rounded ends and brown curving stripes similar to Goats Eye. One end of the seed seems to have a frosted appearance. My new seed from this 2017 season will probably show it's appearance better as the seed ages and darkens a bit. Robert L. Dieter of Pennsylvania was probably the first to list the bean around 1983. I would venture a guess that the bean might be an Iroquois nation variety.
