VEGETABLES / BEAN
SNAP-POLE
Pole bean with a strong climbing tendency. Very light green young pods (not truly white as the name suggests) turn yellow early. Pods are straight and glabrous (hairless) and have a long beak. Pods develop a faint red blush as they mature. Mature pods average 5.6" long by 0.5" wide. White flowers have light pink venation on the base of the standard. Tender and juicy snap bean with a weak suture string. Also good as a shelling (horticultural) bean with a rich, slightly sweet flavor and moist texture. Easy to shell. 6-7 seeds per pod on average. Leathery podded dry pods. Kidney-shaped, cream colored seeds have brown stripes and conspicuous grey venation. Standard dry bean flavor. Late maturing. Donated to SSE by Janet Heyll-Corrie (NC CO J). Reportedly Roaring River, North Carolina and the Abner Caudle family which has grown the variety for over 100 years. SSE Accession # 104287
