VEGETABLES / SQUASH
C.-PEPO
Summer squash with large, oval zucchini-like fruit. Fruit are dark green with light green speckles and have raised ridges. Plants are highly sprawling and do not produce well in Iowa. They're likely better adapted to the California climate, where the variety has been grown for generations. Market mature fruit are 10-13" long and 7-10 inches wide. Good, zucchini-like flavor. Donated to SSE by Art Zapf. This variety has been grown by both Art and his father. It's originally from Art's grandmother, Daphina (Ruiz) Zapf, who grew this variety since at least the 1930s in Ventura, CA. SSE Accession # 132654
