Turkey Red

GRAINS / WHEAT
Organic Listing
The best-producing heritage variety we've grown on our place so far. In 1919, Turkey covered 99.4% of acreage planted to wheat in the US and was "long considered the standard of high grain quality" according to USDA #938. This bearded hard red winter wheat threshes easily and appears to be moderately drought tolerant, at least anecdotally. The flavor is full and nutty. Current stock is from 2023 as the 2024 harvest was less successful.
