VEGETABLES / COWPEA
Seeds are tan with purple mottling, large, and compressed on the sides. Excellent flavor; smooth, meaty texture. 13-15 seeds per pod. Pods are green with a purple blush and 6-7" long. 2-3 pods per peduncle. Violet flowers. Highly sprawling plants. Long season. Medium-low productivity when grown in 2016 at Heritage Farm. Donated to SSE in 1992 by James Johnson (OK JO J) who received this variety in 1990 from Harold Martin (KY MA H). This 'Grey Crowder' cowpea reminds Johnson of the cowpea his own father grew in the 1940s and 1950s. SSE Accession # 108968
