Small, green, globose fruit. Fruit born singly or more commonly in clusters of two to eight. Short, bushy plants growing 1-2' tall. No prickles. Fruit become solid yellow-orange at seed maturity. Light purple flowers with exserted stigmas. Market mature fruit measure 0.9-1.5" long by 1-1.5" wide and weigh 0.3-0.8oz. Seed mature fruit reach 0.9-1.7" long by 1-2" wide and weigh 0.3-2.2oz. Unusual, slightly unpleasant taste. Slightly bitter. Fruit are seedy and mature early, so must be picked while small and young. Somewhat thick skin. Green flesh. Early maturing. Lodging uncommon. High productivity when grown in 2013 at Heritage Farm. Acquired by SSE from the USDA collection (PI 141968). Donated to the USDA in 1941 by L. Ptitsin of Harbin, Heilongjiang, China. It was originally collected in Heilongjiang (formerly called Manchuria). SSE Accession # 109534
