VEGETABLES / PEPPER
HOT
Small, erect, medium-hot pepper about the size of the tip of a finger. Green or green/purple when immature, reddish-orange when ripe. Fruit erect. Fruit are quite seedy with a mushy texture at maturity. Interesting flavor. Fruit separates from peduncle very easily. 2.5-3 foot tall, bushy plants have small, dark green leaves that are covered with a fine down. Late maturing. Moderately productive. Can be planted as an ornamental but were also traditionally used to infuse Madiera to make "pepper sherry," a popular condiment in Philadelphia cookery for seasoning soups, sauces, and fricassees.
