Perfumey flavor. Thick skin. Large straw colored roots have prominent green shoulders. Roots are narrow and tapering. Rounded root tip. Highly ridged and dimpled skin. White core has distinct inner outer rings. Roots measure 7.5-11.5" long, 1.0-1.6" wide and weigh 4.0-6.4oz. Top 1-3" of roots are exposed from the soil. Tops are very vigorous. Thick, hairy petioles resemble celery stalks. Numerous hairy leaves. Plants measure 1.7-2.0' tall. Slight tendency to bolt. Brix 9.0. This fodder carrot was donated to SSE by John Swenson (IL SW J); from the USDA collection (PI 643114). The USDA received this variety in 1959 from the Pieter-Wheeler Seed Company.
