Cornelian Cherry

Single Image
FRUITS-BERRIES-NUTS / CORNELIAN-CHERRY
Prefers semi-shade but will grow in sun. Long lived, up to fifty years. A type of edible fruited dogwood that is very cold hardy, but also seems to grow well with heat and humidity. Blooms early but is not usually affected by frost. Produces red ripening to black sour cherry type fruit about the size and shape of an olive, with a sweet semi-tart flavor. Seed needs three months warm at 60 - 75 F, then three months cold at 35 - 45F, and then three or more months warm to germinate. Seed germination is erratic and some seeds may continue to germinate for up to two years after planting. Will send 25 seeds. (seeds have been warm stratified, and cold treated for about 2 months. Will need another month of cold then a few months warmth to germinate.)
