VEGETABLES / PEPPER
HOT
Rare! This hot pepper from Guatemala is currently very hard to find in the USA. I had to import seeds from Australia. The yellow pods often have a slight orange tint and are extremely fruity, juicy, with a grapefruit-citrus flavor. Most of the heat is in the septa "veins" and core. 2-4 locules, usually 3. Typically around 3 inches long. Pointed and wavy pods. Capsicum baccatum. Small seeds.
Unlike some Aji relatives, this one set pods when it was well into the 90s F here. It didn't go pollen-sterile during Virginia's hot summer. Dense bushes suitable for large containers.
The plants are tall, unlike Lemon Drop, and the pods are better flavored. Heat level can be adjusted by removing septa and core (mild-medium heat), or leaving septa and core in for a blazing-hot pepper. Unlike any other pepper I've tasted-deliciously bright and fruity.
