A parthenocarpic variety for greenhouse production. Parthenocarpic fruit are long and straight but field grown cucumbers that have been pollinated are highly curved. Market mature fruit are green with glossy, wrinkled skin, white spines, and deep ribbing. Fruit 7-13" long, 1-2" in diameter, and weigh up to 19 oz. Fruit are round to angular in cross-section and have white flesh. Seed mature fruit have 3-4 locules, yellow skin with green blotches, measure 12.5-14.5" long, 2.5" in diameter, and weigh up to 2-2.5 lbs. Plants are prostrate growing and have leaves with hard pubescence and intermediate lobing. Mid-season maturing and very productive when grown in 2015 at Heritage Farm. Nicely crisp, crunchy variety. Acquired by SSE from Thompson & Morgan. CV Tho offered this variety from at least 1981-1990. The variety appears to have originated in England sometime before 1850. It is unknown who was responsible for first developing it, but a number of commercial seed companies had released their own selections of the variety prior to the turn of the 20th century.
