DENT
White dent corn. Cylindrical-conical shaped ears have 12-14 straight rows. Ears 7-8" long and 1.85-2.3" in diameter. Kernels are large and broad. 95% of cobs are white and 5% red. Stems red and pubescent. Plants 8.5-10.5 tall with pendant leaves and large leaf surface area. Little ear damage when grown in and late-tasseling when grown at Heritage Farm in 2015 This variety has been grown by three generations of the Casto family in Arkansas. It was donated to SSE in 2012 by Leroy Muncy, the grandson of Oscar Casto. Oscar lived and farmed his entire life in Tilly, AR and generously shared seeds of this variety with many folks in the area. Leroy’s mother, Alta (Casto) Muncy, was born in the late 1920s and says she cannot remember a time when her father Oscar did not grow this corn. Today the family uses this variety for cornmeal. Oscar Casto also used it for livestock feed. SSE Accession # 131738
