Strong climbing tendency. Red pigmentation on vines and pod stems when pods begin to mature. Flowers purple. Immature pods are green with a dark purple to red tip. Pods mature to dark red and then dry to brown or dark brown. Pods are straight with little curvature. Pods 6-9" long. Pods have 12-14 seeds. Solid brown-red seeds. High productivity per plant and mid to late-maturing when grown in 2014 at Heritage Farm. Dry beans have a mild flavor and slightly drier texture. Donated to SSE by Ira Wallace (VA WA I), who acquired it from Southern Exposure Seed Exchange. This variety is described by Southern Exposure as an heirloom from Virginia and North Carolina.
