VEGETABLES / RADISH
WINTER
This is a winter radish best grown in the fall. When grown in the spring it bolts very quickly. This variety is very variable in terms of size, shape, and color. The flesh color is solid white, but the skin is white with either purple or green at the top. Some have completely purple skin with solid white flesh. Some are quite long, while others are a bit shorter. Most are cylindrical in shape, with others more on the triangular side and some more on the elliptical side. This variety has tough skin but is very juicy. It has a delayed spicyness. Radishes measure 1.5-3" in diameter, 7-10" long, and 0.5-1.5 lbs. The leaves are long, green, and highly lobed. The roots grow partially above the soil line. The plants grow 1.5-2 ft tall. Given to SSE by Edward Litton who obtained the variety from the Bureau of Plant Industry in the Philippines.
