Moroccan Poppy

Papaver atlanticum. True orange flowers held on wiry stems over glaucous, fuzzy rosettes. This short-lived perennial grows in gravel edges of pathways, cracks in concrete, and in whatever loose, sandy-ish soil it can find. It reseeds gently and responds beautifully to a cut back midsummer for a fresh flurry of blossoms. A great flower for San Francisco, where it requires very little supplemental to put on a show.
