VEGETABLES / BEAN
SNAP-POLE
Half-runner, dry bean. Seeds are white, plump, and almost round. Very good flavor and texture. Pods are short, 2-3" long, and contain 2-4 seeds. May be used as a green bean when young but pods become tough quickly. Plants are weakly climbing. White flowers. Low productivity when grown in 2016 at Heritage Farm. Early maturing. Donated to SSE in 1981 by bean collector John Withee of Lynnfield, Massachusetts and the Wanigan Associates. John received this variety from Silas Gilliam of Virginia in the late 1970s. Silas got this variety from Nora Day of Kentucky in the early 1970s and noted that people in this area have grown these beans for many years. SSE Accession # 101510
