George McLaughlin introduced this variety to the SSE Exchange in 1986. He described it as a family heirloom that he and his wife, Jerreth, received in 1985 from Jerreth’s Aunt Clara and Uncle Doy of Salem, Illinois. Clara and Doy had grown this variety as their primary canning bean for over 30 years. They received this variety from Olive Stroup who got it while visiting her family in Tennessee circa 1950. Olive’s sister gave her some of these seeds and stated that this variety was widely grown in the south. Seeds were given to SSE by Mark Futterman (CA FU M) who received this variety from George McLaughlin (OK MC G) in the mid-1980s. SSE Accession # 102868
