In a letter to SSE, Winona Martin, an Old Order Mennonite of Mount Pleasant Mills, Pennsylvania, asked if the seed bank would be interested in preserving a sugar pea variety her grandparents and then her parents grew and saved seeds from for many decades in Lancaster and Snyder counties, PA. “My mother passed on in 2022,” explains Winona, “and my father won’t raise produce anymore and hates to just throw the seeds away.
