Schimmeig Stoo

A beautiful, red, lobed tomato with orange streaks. Tomatoes are hollow and suitable for stuffing, similar to bell peppers. Thick walls, tough skin. Flavor is lackluster and texture is equally poor. Be sure to stuff this tomato with something very flavorful! Tomatoes are 2.5 inches long, 2.75 inches wide, and 5-6 ounces. Fruit are born in clusters of 3-5. Brix 4.9. Regular leaves, indeterminate plants are medium-large. Mid-season maturing. Donated to SSE by Tom Wagner of Tater Mater Seeds. Tom started collecting some of the pedigree that ultimately went into creating Schimmeig Stoo when he was about 13 years old. He aimed to have a hollow, red tomato with yellow stripes. “…I was breeding for three or four lobed tomatoes. Any more it wouldn’t be hollow, any less it wouldn’t look right.” Tom also have this variety a Manx named (meaning hollow rock) as a form of honoring his grandfather who grew up on the Isle of Mann.
