Small globe tomato. Beautiful red color with orange stripes. Round fruit. Red flesh. Tart and juicy. Fruit measure 1.7-2" long, 1.8-2.2" wide, and weigh 2-3 oz. Clusters of 3-7 fruit. Fruit were covered with scabs in 2015 and 2023. Brix score: 5.5. Indeterminate. Regular leaves. Highly productive when grown in 2015 at Heritage Farm. Early maturing. Acquired by SSE from John Wyncoll (ENGL WY J). In his 1989 SSE Yearbook Exchange listing, Wyncoll indicated that the variety is also known as “Mr. Stripey.” The variety was developed by Dr. Lewis Darby at the Glasshouse Crops Research Institute in the UK. It is unknown when the variety entered the US seed market, though according to SSE’s GSI publications, it has been consistently available from 1981-2004, and can still be purchased from a number of seed companies as of 2014 (as both Mr. Stripey and Tigerella).
