C. maxima. Hubbard. Market mature fruit relatively small, acorn shaped with slightly ribbed, warty rough skin that is dark greenish-brown with a red hue and grayish/green stripes. Fruit somewhat uniform. Market mature fruit 3.5-8" long, 4-8" in diameter, and 1-5 lbs. Flesh color dark orange and 1.5" thick. Low productivity, late-maturing when grown in 2014 at Heritage Farm. Good eating squash; slightly sweet; somewhat dry, slightly grainy, texture like pumpkin pie. Vine; leaves 25-30 cm, entire, no silvering, rough pubescence. Donated to SSE by Anna Swartz circa 1993. At that time, Anna wrote that she had first received the variety about 40 years before. SSE estimates the variety dates to at least 1953. SSE Accession # 120252
