VEGETABLES / PEPPER
HOT
Highly pungent. C. annuum. Variable for fruit color. In 2015 Heritage Farm growout, 20 plants had red mature fruit and five had yellow-orange fruit. Fruit are broadly triangular and slightly corrugated, with some variation in length and shape. Slight curve to some fruit. Pendant. Fruit measure 1-2" long and up to 1" wide. Semi-wrinkled skin. Thin flesh. Highly branched, relatively short plants reach 2' tall. Pubescent leaves and stems. Very productive in 2015. Mid-season maturing. This is a variety traditionally grown by the Pennsylvania Dutch, who use it almost exclusively for pickling or for making a condiment called "pepper vinegar." SSE member William Woys Weaver (PA WE W) acquired this variety from the collection of his late grandfather, H. Ralph Weaver (1896-1956). It is thought that H. Ralph acquired the pepper circa 1935. Historically, the variety can be found with either red, yellow or more rarely, orange fruits. Seeds were donated to SSE by William Woys Weaver (PA WE W). SSE Accession # 117192
