SSE acquired this variety in 2015 when Gary Staley’s seed collection was sent to Heritage Farm after he passed away. Gary listed this variety every year from 1986-2015, and originally got his seeds from Lloyd Duggins of Indiana (IN DU L.) In 1981, Duggins stated he got his seeds from Robert Logston, who got seeds Lose Brothers Seed Company. The ‘Winsall’ tomato was introduced by the Peter Henderson and Company in 1924 under the name ‘No. 400.’ They held a contest to name the new variety and in 1925, revealed that Winsall was the winning submission chosen unanimously by a panel of 3 judges.
