Medium sized fruit have a notably flat shape and short stem, causing fruit to lay against the branch. Thick skin is blushed and striped with red and partially covered in russetting. Very aromatic. Known as some as the "Wise Apple" due to its late flowering which helps it avoid late spring frosts. Late season, better after a period of storage. DNA tested in 2024 and confirmed correct. A very old apple originating in France. First described in 1613. The name means 'hanging short and flat', describing the short stalked, flattened fruit.
