FRUITS-BERRIES-NUTS / APPLE
Organic Listing
True apple seeds. Looking for true-to-type fruit? Please see my scionwood listing instead. Apples do not grow true-to-type from seed: seedlings will not produce fruit identical to the parent plant, though in this case they will share similar hardy characteristics due to Dolgo being self-fertile and its early flowering genetics. While Dolgo crabapples themselves are desirable fruit producers, these open-pollinated seedlings are valued primarily for utilitarian purposes: excellent hardy rootstock for grafting, ideal pollenizers due to early and abundant flowering, stunning ornamental beauty with spring blooms and attractive fruit, and as wildlife attractants providing food for birds, deer, and other wildlife. Originating in Siberia, Dolgo is an exceptionally cold-hardy crabapple known for its vigor and adaptability. Seedlings from this variety will produce hardy, cold-tolerant trees suitable for these utilitarian purposes. Germination: Apple seeds require cold stratification to break dormancy. Since this cultivar originates in Siberia, stratify the seeds in the refrigerator for the winter and plant in the spring, or when they break dormancy and begin to sprout. Limited quantities for fall/winter 2025. If you don't need the full SSE fulfillment number of 25 seeds--a couple dozen full-sized apple tree will require upwards of an acre of space!--please note that in your request to free up seeds for others.
