Chlorogalum pomeridianum. Also known as California soaproot, or Amole. This perennial California native has many uses, including as a soap-like lathering agent as its name suggests. The bulb is edible, although somewhat fibrous. Will grow almost anywhere and requires no care once established. Seeds required 90 days of cold stratification if started indoors. Otherwise sow directly outdoors in the fall. Germination can take up to 6 months and may require two stratification cycles.
