Teffenhardt

Amy Stauffer of Ashland, Ohio, began her stewardship of this sweet pepper variety in 2021 from seed that her lifelong neighbor, Kathryn ‘Katie’ (Thiel) Teffenhardt (1936-2020), had given to her shortly before her passing. Katie was an ethnic German (Donauschwaben) from Semeljci, a town in present-day Croatia, who immigrated with her family to the US in 1950 when she was 13. She got the pepper seeds in the mid-1980s during a trip to Petrifeld (Petresti), Romania, where her husband, Mathew Teffenhardt (1932-2020), also an ethnic German who immigrated to the US in 1950, was from. Amy donated this variety to SSE in 2023. SSE Accession # 133923.
