VEGETABLES / SQUASH
C.-MOSCHATA
Organic Listing
My vines climbed up a concrete chunk wall and about 10 feet along and through a chainlink fence at the top. Leave them lots of room to spread or return them to the area where you planted them if necessary.
Description and photo were copied from the Annapolis Seeds listing. They planted it June 1 and harvested it in October around the time of the first frost. I did the same. Our first frost was in late October in Ann Arbor MI zone 6a. DO NOT plant it near butternut squash because they are the same genus and species. I did this by accident so am not saving 2025 seeds or using my own photo.
C. moschata - Amazing green-fleshed fruit. One of our favourite squash for flavour; sweet and fruity (reminiscent of honeydew) with firm, silky texture. Like butternut, but a bit different. Lots of diversity, definitely would be considered a landrace variety. Shapes range from slender long-necked fruit to round pumpkin shaped (however the majority are butternut shaped). Their flesh ranges from green to chocolate-orange. Cooking them brings out the darker green (see photos). Long prolific vines.
