Long, skinny, straight orange roots taper gradually to a point. Orange core fades to yellow at root tip. Mostly smooth skin with ridges on a few roots in 2016 Heritage Farm planting. A few roots were significantly forked. Slight green discoloration on shoulders. Low splitting tendency. Roots 6-8" at market maturity. Fair flavor, less sweet, somewhat dry, moderately crisp in 2016. Bred for fresh use and packaging. Very leafy, with green-yellow leaves. Reputedly resistant to leaf blight. Acquired by SSE from the Rocky Mountain Seed Company of Denver, CO. This accession is potentially and example of the variety by the same name which was developed in the 1950s at the Waltham Field Station (University of Massachusetts, Waltham, MA).
