Wick's Lima

Single Image
VEGETABLES / LIMA-BEAN
POLE
Pole lima. Vigorous. Large, flat seeds are either white with dark purple mottling or solid dark purple to black. Color intensity may depend on environmental conditions. Slightly curved pods have a medium beak length. Pods average 3.3" long by 0.9" wide. Fresh limas are slightly sweet with good flavor. As dry beans, the solid purple seeds have a stronger, nuttier, sweeter flavor and softer texture than the mottled seeds. Shattering dry pods. 2-4 seeds per pod. Mid-season maturing. Average productivity when grown in 2013 at Heritage Farm. Donated to SSE by Helen & H. Lee Thomas. Grown by the Thomas's since the 1960s when they acquired the lima from H. Lee's grandfather, Wick B. Smith, of Sandyville, WV. Grown by Mr. Smith since at least the 1930s. SSE Accession # 112818
