VEGETABLES / MELON
Small, round melon that is very late maturing. Matured the second week of September, a full two weeks later than most of our other melons in 2020 at Heritage Farm. Plants are very vigorous and leafy, with such a dense canopy that fruit are really hard to see. Fruit had a tendency to split in 2020 season. Splotchy yellow-green when ripe. 5-7 inch diameter. 3-6lbs. Smooth, firm rind with slight netting. Orange flesh. Really soft texture. Sweet and syrupy with a carmel-like flavor. Texture is similar to an over-ripe banana. Rind is quite thick relative to the flesh. Moderately productive. Brix of 12.3 in 2020 season at Heritage Farm. Donated to SSE by Dorothy Smith (TX SM D) who introduced this melon into the 1998 SSE Yearbook Exchange. Dorothy received the variety in the 1980s from neighbor David Hause, now deceased. Hause grew this variety for many years and his father grew them to market. SSE Accession # 113302
