Harrison Black

Dark green, elongate fruit, 6-12" long, 5-7.5" wide, 3-12 lbs. The 2013 HF watermelon plot had fertility problems and produced undersized fruit. Pink flesh, rind thickness 0.3-0.5". Seeds black. Somewhat sour tasting; texture is somewhat stringy. Late maturity when grown in 2013 at Heritage Farm. Donated to SSE by Vernon Carlsen (IL CA V) who got this variety from a friend who received it from the Leathers family of Toane, TN. It was maintained since 1928 by the late Floyd Leathers who passed away in the 1980s. SSE Accession # 127770
