VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-BUSH
Half-runner type. Dry bean with 4-5 seeds per pod. Green pods measure 5.6-7.2" long and average 0.6" wide. Straight pods are pubescent with a weak suture string. Pink flowers. Easy to shell. Not recommended as a snap bean. Donated to SSE in 1981 by bean collector John Withee of Lynnfield, Massachusetts and the Wanigan Associates. Withee received the variety circa 1970 from Ernest Dana (NH DA E). This accession is likely the same variety selected by the New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station out of local NH heirloom bean varieties. 'Littleton' was used in the station's breeding work of horticultural/shelling beans in the 1950s (see NH Ag. Exp. Station Bulletin #440, pg. 6). SSE Accession # 100967
