Groundnut - Apios americana - An important food source of Native Americans. These slender vining perennial plants grow in partial shade or sun. Perfect for naturalizing in a woodland garden. The vines grow to about six feet in height and produce beautiful long-lasting lavender flowers. The nutritious edible tubers are plentiful and increase in size each year, containing 17% protein, over 3 times that of potatoes. Sometimes called rosery nuts, the tubers grow one after the other attached to the string-like root, sort of like a bead neckless. Minimum of six tubers sent with information and growing instructions.
