C. momordica. Round to oval fruit are have light green skin with dark green spots and blotches. Skin is smooth and fruit has very slight ribbing. Fruit measure 5.7-6.7 inches long and 4.5-5.5 inches wide and weigh up to 3.5-54 pounds. Flesh is cream colored and 0.8-1.35 inches thick. Plants moderately vining. Fruit infected by anthracnose when grown in 2016 at Heritage Farm, but still very productive. BRIX reading 4.9. Flesh is grainy and slightly sweet. Donated to SSE in 2013 by James Smith of Caledonia, MS who has grown this melon since circa 1993. His mother, Ruby (Gosa) Smith, has grown and saved seed of the variety since the 1930s. Ruby acquired it from her parents, Sam and Tessie Gosa, who lived near Beaverton, AL. James believes they were growing it as early as the “early 1900s.” SSE Accession # 131785
