Comfrey, Bocking 14

FLOWERS / MISC-FLOWERS
Non-invasive Russian Comfrey Bocking #14 is desirable over other comfrey cultivars because the seeds are sterile, making the plant more manageable in the garden. Be mindful about where you plant your comfrey as it will live there forever more. The roots go very deep and tilling or impartially digging out will only propagate more of it! It’s these deep roots that make it such a nourishing addition to a garden and foodscape. My two year old plants are 3-4 feet wide and the flower stalks get about 3 feet tall before the wind knocks them over. Hardy in USDA Zones 3-9. My garden is in Zone 5. It is often the last ‘green’ standing at the end of the season which is when my chickens switch from using it as a shade cover from the sun to feed. The comfrey roots may be cut into smaller pieces with a good pair of pruners and can be cut into as many pieces as you want as small as one inch long. Can take as long as 6-8 weeks to sprout.
