VEGETABLES / PEA
SHELLING
Garden pea. Highly rated for taste in 2015 trials. Sweet, juicy, and tender peas. Short harvest window, so get to them quickly. Plants commonly produce three or more pods per peduncle, hence the name 'Trio.' Straight, round, green pods typically contain 5-7 seeds. Pods 2.5-3.5" long. Plants are highly productive and grow up to 3' tall with little or no basal branching. White flowers. Shattering dry pods. Mostly green and a few yellow, wrinkled seeds. Mid-season maturing. Acquired by SSE from Thompson & Morgan. CV Tho offered this variety from at least 1981-1994. CV Tho changed the name of this variety to “Puget” in 1994. According to SSE’s GSI publications, Trio was available consistently between 1981 and 1998, and Puget was available from 1994-2004, but both varieties were dropped by 2014. Puget was developed and released in 1967 by Brotherton Seed Co., a pea breeding firm in Washington State. According to Jerome Brotherton, a seedhouse in Germany ""introduced"" Trio after acquiring Puget from the Brotherton Seed Company. SSE Accession # 114799
