VEGETABLES / BEAN
SNAP-POLE
Pole, snap bean. Very good flavor; crunchy; juicy; firm. Strong suture string develops rather quickly. Pods green; slightly curved; highly constricted between seeds; 4" long; 0.6" wide. Pods develop light red stripes at maturity. 4-6 seeds per pod. Seeds tan colored with squared ends; medium sized. Plants are moderate climbers. White flowers. Early to mid-season maturing. Donated to SSE in 2014 by Paris Fortner of Erie, Michigan. Paris has maintained this bean variety since at least the mid 1990s. Paris received seeds of the variety from his friend, Boyd Rogers (deceased), who was a preacher in Speedwell, Tennessee. Boyd told Paris that he received the seed from a friend in Speedwell. The variety is called ‘Tick’ because its seed looks like a swollen tick. It's used by Paris as a snap bean. SSE Accession # 132346
