Northern Spy

Large, round fruit. Skin is green with flushes and strips of red. Flesh is white, firm, crisp, and fine-grained. Good all-purpose apple and especially good in pies. Trees are moderately vigorous. Ripens late season. Planted from seed by Herman Chapin in East Bloomfield, New York, c. 1800. The original tree was killed before fruiting, only later having a shoot collected by Roswell Humphrey and brought to commercial success some 40 years later.
