C.-MAXIMA
C. maxima. A giant pumpkin, grown for exhibits and competitions. Pale to medium orange rind. Moderate ribbing; some slight netting. Round shape is best achieved by continual turning, as it tends to sag under its own weight. Indented blossom end. Leave only one fruit per vine to grow the largest fruit possible. Without maintenance, fruit will reach up to 100lbs but they can achieve upwards of 1000lbs with proper care. Pale orange flesh, about 3" thick. Not meant for eating. Vigorously sprawling vines. Acquired by SSE via Glenn Drowns (IA DR G) who obtained the variety from Tom Knoche (OH KN T) in 1982. SSE Accession # 119786
