Dry or shelling bean. Moderately climbing pole bean. Solid dark purple-red, glossy, plump, oval seeds. With their white hilum, the seeds resemble cranberries. 3-6 seeds per pod. Green pods turn yellow at maturity and have a red blush along the dorsal and ventral sutures. Slightly curved pods. Pods reach 4-5" long and 0.7" wide. Non-pigmented plants. Purple flowers. Leathery dry pods. Very hard seeded. Intermediate productivity when grown in 2015 at Heritage Farm. Donated to SSE by Russ Crow (IL CR R) in the early 1980s. Crow received this variety from John Withee of Lynnfield, Massachusetts and the Wanigan Associates. SSE Accession # 101967
